Recalls are a well-established global practice; from time to time they are announced by almost all manufacturers of not only cars, but also any other industrial products. But since a car is considered a source of increased danger, it is recalls in the automotive industry that attract the most attention and cause the greatest resonance. Check if your car is covered by a recall campaign. Sometimes manufacturers will recall their cars because of substandard parts or workmanship and repair them for free, regardless of the warranty. This is called a recall campaign. More information on 1979 Chevrolet CAMARO recalls can be found in this database. It may be useful to use online problems resource that shows automotive defect patterns, based on complaint data submitted by vehicle owners. The problems are organized into groups with data published by vehicle, component, and specific issue. See also an updated list of 1979 Chevrolet CAMARO problems before buying a used car. In most cases, the recall is initiated by the manufacturer. But it also happens that it is forced to do so. The largest and most scandalous recall campaigns were those that were initiated by complaints and lawsuits from consumers through controlling state structures.

About Chevrolet's Camaro Z/28 model: Competing directly with the popular Ford Mustang, the Camaro had been an instant success since its inception in 1967. Once Chevrolet began to identify the performance packages, the Trans Am-inspired Z/28 option was appealing to those who preferred power over comfort. Early on, the Z/28 was not allowed to be mated to anything other than a 4-speed transmission and features, like air conditioning, were not allowed to be attached to the order form. It was a raw option, and definitely not for everyone. As time went on, the Z/28 package was freed to allow an automatic transmission by 1970 and air conditioning hit the option checklist by 1974. Sadly, the Z/28 departed the Chevrolet lineup in 1975. It wasn't until 1977 that the Z/28 would return as its own model, instead of an option. These late 1970's Camaro had become rather sculpted in appearance with the 350ci V8 being the highest output offering in the Camaro lineup. In 1978, the urethane bumpers rounded the exterior body presentation nicely, and a non-functional hood scoop gave the car a sporty presence. Although, you were forced to accept the elaborate exterior Z/28 body decal sticker kit absent the option to order without. Hence in 1979, customers who wanted the top-of-the-line model could ask that the D88 Z/28 Stripe be deleted to give the car a cleaner overall presentation. The original owner of the Camaro offered here jumped at the chance to custom order his Camaro in 1979 exactly as you see here, without any Z/28 stickers hindering the lines. He then kept it in his careful possession for the next 27 years! A truly wonderfully cared for and well-kept example that was delivered new from Ray Catena Chevrolet in Fairlawn, NJ to Anthony Deriso on April 2nd, 1979 of Hackensack, NJ with just 6 miles on the odometer. Mr. Deriso would cherish his Camaro sparingly and later moved to California in March 1999. It would always be garaged, and maintained to collector standards while in his care. The only modifications would include an upgrade from the non-functional style 1979 hood scoop to a later generation 1980 cowl version (original included), a Jensen AM/FM/Cassette audio system, and chromed alternator bracket and valve covers. Mr. Deriso would finally come to sell his treasured Camaro in September 2006 to a local St. Louis resident with just 40,498 original miles on the odometer! This new owner/collector would enjoy this outstanding Camaro Z/28 sparingly during the fair weather driving season offered to us here in the Midwest region.
